Hi,
if you can't find dark rum, just use regular rum - or even brandy.
As for the corn starch, just replace it with regular flour, or replace all the flour and corn starch with 200g/7oz cake flour if you can find it. Maybe the cake will be a little bit denser, but delicious nonetheless.

Oh no! I shouldn't have opened the link sitting hungry in the library...now I have to get some cake - even though I'm pretty sure I won't find something similarly amazing ;-)
